Power over Ethernet (PoE) has been around for more than a decade; however, only very recently has it been applied to power lighting systems. Please join us as Larry discusses what PoE is, how PoE is used to power lighting fixtures, PoE lighting controls, and options for emergency lighting when using this technology.  This presentation will also cover the various codes and standards that apply to PoE lighting systems, and how this technological advancement could possibly be the lighting industry’s next disruptor.

Speaker: Larry Jones, PE, MIES

Larry is currently an Associate and Senior Electrical Engineer at Baird, Hampton & Brown (BHB) and has been with the firm for nearly 15 years. He brings expertise in designing central energy plants, utility distribution systems, low and medium voltage switchgear, and engine-generator systems, including paralleling switchgear and controls. He has a particular interest in lighting design for historic buildings and in creating period-appropriate designs that incorporate state of the art lighting technology for energy efficiency. Most recently, he was the lead electrical engineer that helped implement PoE for the transformation of the historic downtown office building, The Sinclair, into a four-star hotel.
